What? We Become Gods?? A Quick Explanation of the Doctrine of Deification

Dec 30, 2025

I pray you are having a wonderful, blessed Christmas!

As we continue our joyful celebration of the Incarnation of Christ, I wanted to share a very interesting snippet from...dare I say it...a jaw-dropping conversation I had with author and professor Dr. Daniel Keating.

Our topic in this upcoming podcast is a Catholic teaching many (most?) people have never even heard of - deification.

Deification - also known as divinization - is the Church’s doctrine that salvation doesn’t simply mean a “get out jail free” card.

It’s way, way more.

It’s the ability to actually share in Christ’s divinity...for real!

As St. Athanasius declared, “God became man so that man might become God.”

That’s the jaw-dropping part (which you’ll find all throughout the teaching of the Fathers, in Scripture, as well as in the Catechism itself).

That said, it needs some explanation.

Is Growing Closer to God on Your List of New Year’s Resolutions?

What’s your plan to make it happen?

I want to help your prayer life explode and achieve an intimacy with God that defies description!

After all, at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about...and that’s the goal of the Science of Sainthood.

It’s step by step spiritual formation unlike anything you’ve ever seen.
