Just trust in God, and everything will turn out fine! 

How often have you heard some variation of that line from a well-meaning friend or family member?

And when we're going through a difficult time in our lives - or even just having a rough day - of course the very first thing we should do is turn to God in trust that he'll take care of us.

But there's a common misunderstanding here that can cause a lot of pain and doubt.

The fact is, things don't always work out the way we want them to, even when we do place our trust in God and ask for his help.

So what are you saying, Matthew?

That God won't 'work for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose?'

Or maybe that the people he doesn't help just don't love him enough?

Not at all.

But those misconceptions are part of what makes this such a tricky subject.

God does work for the good of those who love him - but that verse - Romans 8:28 - doesn't mean what most people think it means.
