I once heard a beautiful homily explaining one of the reasons why nuns wake up several times throughout the night to pray.
The priest told us that in part, it was to emulate the schedule of a new mother, up at all hours of the night feeding her infant.
Just as moms make a loving sacrifice of their sleep to care for their children, the nuns sacrifice their sleep to pray for those mothers and children - and for all the rest of us, too!
And while that kind of prayer routine is a good thing for the nuns, is it the right thing for mothers (and fathers)?
Should they be emulating the powerful prayer lives of religious in this way?
Would it shock you if I said that in reality, not only is it unlikely to be a good idea, but that it might even be sinful if they did?
We'll quickly lay it out in today's Sainthood Snippet.
God bless,
Matthew
