Fulton Sheen’s Non-Negotiable Daily Habit

Aug 26, 2026

With his beatification coming up in just a few weeks, Catholics of all ages are discovering - and rediscovering - Archbishop Fulton Sheen....which is awesome.

After all, Fulton Sheen spent his life teaching people about Christ, the spiritual life, prayer, suffering - you name it!

But as much as we can learn from what he taught, there’s perhaps even more to learn from how he lived.

What did Fulton Sheen himself actually do to become holy?

In other words, when the cameras were off and the lights were low, how did he actually live?

I want to help your prayer life explode and achieve an intimacy with God that defies description!

After all, at the end of the day that's what it's all about...and that's the goal of the Science of Sainthood.

Part of the answer to that question is something Sheen did every single day for more than 60 years.

No matter how busy he got, this one daily habit was non-negotiable.

And I think it tells us a ton about the man who’s about to be beatified.

I recently sat down with Allan Smith - a man devoted to Sheen and on the committee for his beatification - for a fascinating conversation about Fulton Sheen’s life, his spirituality, and his path toward canonization.

The full interview will post next week on the Art of Catholic podcast, so be on the lookout for that.

But today, I wanted to give you a little preview.

It’s just a few minutes long, and in it, we get into the one daily habit Fulton Sheen refused to give up - and why it was absolutely essential to his priesthood, his public ministry, and his personal spiritual life.

God bless,

Matthew
