1. At its core, what is prayer a movement of?
Answer: It is a movement of love. It’s the raising of our hearts toward God arising from our interior life.
2. Why are we made to pray?
Answer: We are made to pray because we are made for union with God. He made us for relationship and so he created us to be able to communicate and spend time with him, which is the primary role of prayer.
3. What does prayer take our eyes off of and turn our gaze toward?
Answer: Prayer helps us take our eyes off of ourselves and put them on God. In other words, it helps us move from being self-centered to God-centered. Every person is designed for a God-centered life even if they don’t realize it because we are literally made to be in union with him.
4. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is it enough to have the will to pray? Why?
Answer: No, simply having the will to pray is not enough. We have to learn how to do it, as well. The Catechism says there is an art to prayer that needs to be learned so that we can communicate with God effectively.
