How Even Busy People Can Be Guilty of Sloth

May 26, 2026

I like summer as much as the next guy, but...for a season that's known for its "lazy days," summer isn't really much of a break once you hit adulthood.

It's actually pretty jam-packed with activity: keeping the kids busy, gearing up for summer travel...maybe even (gulp) volunteering to help with Vacation Bible School. (That's almost a "get out of purgatory free" card.)

And in all of that busy-ness, it can be so easy to put our focus solely on getting through each hectic day and its activities.

But believe it or not, summer is a season ready-made for the sin of sloth.

And if you're like, "Whaaaaat?", I hear you.

Sloth doesn't just mean lying on the couch eating bonbons all day.

(I don't even know what a "bonbon" is, to be honest, so let's just substitute the phrase "watching golf" in that sentence.)

It has to do with fulfilling our duties to God and neighbor, as well.

And when we focus on one of those to the exclusion of the other, that's where this deadly sin can creep in without us even realizing it.

So if you're brave enough to hear a little more on this, watch today's Sainthood Snippet and find out what I'm talking about.

God bless!
