Now we're going to discuss two of the most important pieces of the spiritual life - meditation and contemplation.
Lots of people have mistaken notions about both of them, which we'll set straight. And that's important, because if there's one thing that could dramatically change the world, it would be more Catholics practicing deep prayer.
And remember, these two incredibly beautiful and powerful modes of prayer aren't just for monks and nuns in a distant convent. They're for every single Catholic, no matter your state in life. They're for you!
"He who does not make mental prayer does not even know his defects, and therefore, as St. Bernard says, he does not abhor them. He does not even know the dangers to which his eternal salvation is exposed, and, therefore, he does not even think of avoiding them.
But he who applies himself to meditation instantly sees his faults, and the dangers of perdition, and, seeing them, he will reflect on the remedies for them."
St. Alphonsus Ligouri
"My soul is feasted as with marrow and fat,
and my mouth praises thee with joyful lips,
6 when I think of thee upon my bed,
and meditate on thee in the watches of the night;
7 for thou hast been my help,
and in the shadow of thy wings I sing for joy.
8 My soul clings to thee;
thy right hand upholds me."
Psalm 63:5-8
We think about things we love.
How often have we been lost in thought about the person who stole our heart? How much time have we spent deliberating over issues at work?
Meditating upon something allows it to seep into your being. It begins to consume you. You sear it into your memory.
That's why we need to meditate on God. We need him to seep into the marrow of our spiritual bones and become one with us.
We need to open ourselves to the torrent of divine love that can only be accessed through meditative prayer. It's one of the most important things in the spiritual life...by far.
Meditate upon the Lord day and night and your soul will soar to heaven...literally.

"This is the perfect place to go deeper in your faith. Matthew Leonard is an expert guide to the spiritual life and offers anyone the most important opportunity of all - to be transformed in Christ!"
Lenore M. Cleveland, OH
"After 40 years in the priesthood, I finally understand concepts like the 'Purgative, Illuminative and Unitive ways' and abandonment to the will of God. I heard Matthew Leonard explain them in a way that even I can understand. He is possibly the finest speaker on the spiritual life out there."
About as much as one (very) cheap dinner out a month...that's it!
Look, we spend money on things that are valuable to us. We pay for "necessities" like cable, streaming services, gym memberships, and morning visits to gourmet coffee shops
They all put a dent in our wallet.
The question is whether you are willing to spend a few dollars for spiritual treasures in the same manner. Are you ready to invest in your spiritual future?
It's a matter of priorities. And again, we're not talking a lot.
While the Science of Sainthood provides world-class instruction, guidance and community that goes well beyond even many universities, we do it at a tiny fraction of the cost...less than a dollar a day!
(Just one class at a Catholic college costs about $3,000! The Science of Sainthood is less than 10% of that for an entire year!)
We are a lean organization that is focused on one thing - helping as many people as possible be radically transformed in Jesus Christ.
The question is..."Are you ready?"
